Description

The Georgia Conservation Voters family of organizations includes the Georgia Conservation Voters, Inc., the Georgia Conservation Voters Education Fund, and the Georgia Conservation Voters Action Fund. The Georgia Conservation Voters' (GCV) mission is to advocate for public policies that advance a more just and sustainable future, campaign for candidates who will make climate and environmental justice a priority, and hold elected officials accountable for their actions and votes. GCV believes all Georgians have the right to breathe clean air, drink clean water, eat healthy foods, and live in a world free from environmental harm. GCV envisions a future where Georgia’s elected leaders are informed and empowered to take action to advance climate and environmental justice. GCV  seeks to enrich collegiate students with full immersion in elections and advocacy work through our Victory Internship Program. GCV’s mission is to advocate for public policies that advance a more just and sustainable future, mobilize voters who make climate and environmental justice a priority, and hold elected officials accountable for their actions and votes. Students will embark on a semester-long or Fiscal year-long internship that includes at least one election cycle and a Legislative session at the Georgia Legislature.

Role Summary

As a Victory Intern, you will join GCV’s staff at the Georgia State Capitol to engage with Legislators and help lobby for or against bills that span the environmental and voting rights sector. You will have the opportunity to sit in on key meetings and initiative days with elected officials and conservation partners and learn the ins and outs of what it takes to advance the climate space. Interns will be tasked with assisting and launching a 100% Clean Energy Day at the Capitol, where they will recruit and invite students, voters, and GCV supporters from around Georgia to participate in the push for a cleaner and brighter Georgia, also creating a community event supporting 100% Clean Energy in Georgia. Interns will have the opportunity to build a field campaign from the ground up by brainstorming and creating innovative ways to engage voters to support GCV’s endorsed candidates. They will work directly with voters through canvassing events, phone banking, text banking, and postcard writing to help activate them to vote and educate the voter on the importance of electing environmentally sound candidates. You’ll recruit volunteers from your personal network to be engaged with the events you create and learn the basics of volunteer retention and what it takes to maintain a solid volunteer program for a campaign. You will learn the key points of the environmental landscape and what GCV and other organizations in the environmental sector are currently working towards. Interns will receive one-on-one mentorship and group training from the Senior Organizer, Governmental Affairs Manager, and Political Director and have time to get to know GCV’s candidates by sitting in on campaign meetings. You will learn how a campaign budget is created and executed to maintain a successful field campaign. Interns will also learn how to prioritize races based on organizational goals and how to create a clear path to victory when managing a slate of endorsed candidates.
