About the Internship
The Port Authority's Tenant Construction and Alteration Process (TCAP) encompasses all alterations and minor works at existing facilities, in addition to all new construction, and is a way of managing work performed in leaseholds and public facilities. The process efficiency serves the interests of both the Tenant and the Port Authority and requires close coordination between both parties. The TCAP Central Office leads the agency's effort to be recognized as the premier transportation authority for commercial partner construction projects, providing superior service and expert guidance in executing projects in the most expeditious fashion. As part of the team, you will be involved in all aspects of TCAP process performance monitoring and improvements; research and development of new automation opportunities; engage with both internal and external stakeholders to advance and demonstrate the Port Authority's potential to be a leading public agency to partner with for construction projects.
Responsibilities

Monitor line and staff department performance for negative and positive trends

Identify the improvement opportunities and assist in the implementation

Work on development of new ways to monitor the process performance

Support achievement of performance targets, improve efficiency of internal processes and improve customer experience

Support TCAP's technology and automation efforts aimed at improving the easy and functionality of TCAP digital system

Assist in TCAP Chatbot and AI further development and full implementation

TCAP website development and TCAP Manual update

Monitor process performance by administering surveys to receive feedback
Minimum Qualifications
-
Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
-
Major in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
-
Rising senior or graduate-level student
-
Experience with database management and process improvement methodologies
-
Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc
Desired Qualifications
-
Experience working with teams on complex projects
-
Experience using scripting languages to analyze large datasets
-
Experience using ArcGIS or a similar software
-
Experience utilizing or programming AI Models
-
Demonstrated interest in transportation and/or urban policy
-
Demonstrated interest in public service
-
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Internship Details

The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026

The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026
-
This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)

In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits

The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
