Join our team at Chartwells Higher Education UNC Charlotte as a Nutrition Graduate Intern! In this role, you'll collaborate closely with our leadership team to develop skills and competencies, gaining practical experience in nutrition education. As a Nutrition Graduate Intern, you'll have the opportunity to gain valuable experience across various areas, including foodservice operations, nutrient analysis, higher education marketing and promotion, nutrition education, Demo Kitchen programming, and food safety.

Working alongside our Campus Dietitian, you will play a pivotal role in implementing and promoting dining programs on campus. You will serve as an integral part of our team, working closely with other dining service members to achieve our goals and enhance campus awareness of our food allergy programs and special dietary offerings.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and execute monthly wellness events and Teaching Kitchen programs

  • Develop wellness promotional materials and event calendars

  • Conduct audits of food allergy stations and menu signage

  • Collaborate closely with the campus dining management team to organize and execute events and wellness projects seamlessly.

  • Provide support to the marketing department by assisting with nutrition-related promotions and projects

  • Attend meetings or other events as required to stay informed and contribute to team discussions.

  • Contact student and faculty members who have requested private teaching kitchens, and provide recipe suggestions based on their preferences, taking into account any food allergies or dietary restrictions.

  • Develop comprehensive shopping lists and coordinate with campus chefs to acquire necessary ingredients for events and programs.

  • Create visually appealing graphics to advertise dining services events and initiatives across campus.

  • Deliver credible nutrition education and engaging wellness programs to promote healthy eating habits and overall well-being among students and staff.

Expectations

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Customer service experience or knowledge is essential.

  • Strong interpersonal skills are a must.

  • Demonstrate interest and basic knowledge in the field of nutrition.

  • Culinary skills are a plus.

  • Basic Canva design skills

  • Prior marketing-related experience

  • Exhibit a strong work ethic, providing assistance and support to coworkers

  • Take initiative to research information using evidence-based platforms provided by the registered dietitian when lacking knowledge in a certain area.

  • Act professionally, arriving to work with a positive attitude and readiness to support, serve, and collaborate with other team members.

  • Be reliable in meeting deadlines and effectively communicate needs to supervisor and other team members.

  • Accept constructive criticism and feedback, and apply it to improve performance.

  • Commit to working a minimum of 15 hours per week unless determined otherwise by the supervisor.

  • The preferred candidate should possess reliable transportation for commuting to various campus locations and traveling 5 miles
