Description

The Emory Sports Fitness Camp (SFC) was founded in 1965 by members of the full-time teaching faculty in the Department of Physical Education. Their goal was to provide children with a fun and safe environment in which to foster a life-long appreciation for physical activity. Children today need physical activity more than ever! Thousands of children have benefitted from the program over the last 55 years and former campers now bring their children to the camp. SFC hosts approximately 60 children ages 5-12 each week.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Activity coordinators are responsible for facilitating sport-specific activities and games for campers ages 5-12.

  • Coordinators are expected to develop a curriculum for each day of camp appropriate for different age groups.

  • Additionally, coordinators are expected to support counselors in overall group management and to approach position creatively to ensure learning, development, and fun for campers.

  • Coordinators must be able to enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures.

  • Coordinators should have an understanding of appropriate guidance and discipline techniques for various ages which may be necessary during camp.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least one year of programming or coaching experience, preferably in a camp or school setting

  • Per Emory University requirements and guidelines, all students, faculty, and staff are to be vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19, with exceptions only for those with approved medical or religious exemptions.

  • All staff must pass a background check prior to employment

  • Team leading and facilitation experience in one or more of the following areas: team sports, outdoor adventures, aquatics, track and field, gymnastics

  • CPR, AED and First Aid certification is required by the start of camp (will be provided during training if needed)

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Understanding of the needs of a diverse community

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is desired: physical or sports education, childcare, camp counseling, team building, experiential education, recreational activities, outdoor recreation, arts & crafts, and aquatics

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with children, peers, and Camp Administration staff

  • Prioritize risk management in the activities and games that they lead

  • Willingness to utilize a variety of techniques in resolving conflict

  • Salary Range (Commensurate with experience)

TRAINING:

May 29-31, 10 AM-4 PM, lunch provided

Camp dates for 2024:

Week 1: June 3rd - 7th

Week 2: June 10th - 4th

Week 3: June 17th - 21st (Juneteenth Observed)

Week 4: June 24th - 28th
