Job Description

Two shifts available: 10am-3pm OR 1:30pm-6pm


OVERVIEW

 Inspire, teach, and lead Fort Mill School District’s elementary age children through purposeful afterschool activities in accordance with the FLYERS curriculum. These activities will engage the children to provide quality care and enrichment, meeting the needs of each child’s social and emotional skills. The afterschool teacher will promote growth and nourish curiosity through scheduled experiences to create a future full of life-long learners. Positive, warm, and understanding individuals who seek to make learning come to life will encourage meaningful relationships with the children, families, and their team.

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Implement the FLYERS curriculum with awareness to each child’s interests, talents and needs, cultural background, and individual learning styles
  • Create a nurturing environment and model appropriate behavior for children
  • Teach and facilitate academic, recreational, and enrichment activities
  • Uses proactive thinking and best practices toward a healthy and safe environment
  • Support the program’s success by helping maintain clean and organized areas and shared school space 
  • Partner and communicate with parents and team members in a positive way
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Strong organizational skills, outstanding customer service, and the ability to multi-task and manage situations effectively 
  • Enjoys working with children in a large group environment and the ability to determine the cognitive, social, and physical needs of children
  • Above average interpersonal skills with strong written/oral communication skills and an ability to work with a wide variety of people and circumstances 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and or/ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  

  • High school diploma or GED preferred or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Negative PPD/Tuberculosis Testing
  • Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child & Youth protection training; will train

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
 Must be able to exert up to twenty-five pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects when needed. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for extended periods of time and maintain a higher level of activity.

Founded by the non-profit organization, Leroy Springs & Co., the FLYERS program was created to provide recreation and childhood development opportunities to Fort Mill’s children.
