Job Description

The Graduate Assistant for Leadership Development will report to the  Assistant Director for the Leadership & Community Engagement. This is a 20-hour per week  position starting in mid-August and ending Mid-May. This position is dedicated to working with our leadership development programs, including but not limited to: students in the  Leadership Journey Learning Community (LJLC), the PILOT certificate program, LEAD Team, and the TEDxUNCCharlotte program. This position will have a focus in planning,  programming, recruitment and program/event management.

Primary Responsibilities of Position:

  • Leadership Journey Learning Community (LJLC)
  •  Develop and attend a minimum of 1 event per month for students; meeting social and educational needs 
  •  Attend LJLC events including retreats  
  •  Supervise and collaborate with the Peer Mentors to coordinate the end-of-year graduation.
  •  Oversee creation and grading of quizzes and reflections for the Freshmen Seminar and Leadership Classes
  • Conduct and coordinate advising appointments for the students in LJLC
  • Lead and facilitate peer mentor check in meetings at least once a month
  • Facilitate peer mentor training at the end of the Spring semester

  • PILOT Program Coordination
  • Coordinates schedule of events and advertises programs 
  • Market PILOT to student groups and individuals, including the dissemination of a monthly newsletter to the active PILOT roster 
  • Coordinate recognition of PILOT certifications in spring 
  • Provide digital signage updates for office 
  • LEAD Team
  • Assist the coordinator in the recruitment, selection and and training of new LEAD Team members
  • Attends and participates in LEAD team meetings and retreats 
  • Coordinate and facilitate LEAD Team presentations and workshops for PILOT
  • Leadership and Community Engagement
  • Assist with L&CE student employee holiday party 
  • Support the coordination of the L&CE Awards Banquet 
  • Assist with office projects, mailings, events, reception area staffing, etc 
  • Staff tables at Gold Rush welcome week, New Student Orientation (NSO) Resource Fair, and other resource fairs
  • TEDx UNC Charlotte
  • Assist with reviewing speaker applications 
  • Coordinate marketing efforts for the event and speaker applications 
  • Assist with the management of the day-of event
