The Center for Wellness Promotion (CWP) is looking for a motivated student assistant to support the development and implementation of a number of programs related to substance misuse prevention and harm reduction among the student population at UNC Charlotte. The role is a good fit for students who are interested in research, health education and promotion, and substance use. The program assistant will join the alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) program within the Substance Use Prevention and Recovery Support team, contributing to the larger goals of CWP and the Health and Wellbeing unit, enhancing health promotion strategies to help students make informed decisions about their personal health and well-being.
Role Responsibilities:
● Assist with the development and implementation of ATOD services, presentations, and presentation materials
● Facilitate 1:1 BASICS meeting with students
● Facilitate alcohol and cannabis education workshop
● Coordinate and facilitate tabling outreach activities
● Attendance of supervision and team meetings with the Assistant Director for Prevention & Education
● Provide a student perspective to enhance programs
● Participate in orientation, training, and professional development activities as assigned
● Assist with other CWP projects and perform other duties as assigned
● Work collaboratively with CWP staff to coordinate and implement key initiatives such as Substance Use Prevention Month, Alcohol Awareness Month, National Collegiate
Alcohol Awareness Week, etc.
● Perform as integral and ethical professionals
Minimum requirements:
● Currently enrolled as graduate student at UNC Charlotte
● Demonstrated interest in substance use prevention, health promotion, or student
wellness
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage peers in a
respectful and nonjudgmental manner
● Availability to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, with the potential for up to 20 hours
Preferred qualifications:
● Pursuing graduate studies in public health, social work, counseling, or psychology
● Experience with Instagram, Canva, health communication, and other media content
● Familiarity with collegiate health and wellbeing, health promotion, motivational
interviewing, and substance use prevention
● Comfortable facilitating presentations to small groups, large audiences, and
classroom‑style settings
● Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities
Position Details:
● $20 per hour
● Appointment begins in August and ends in April
● 15-20 hours per week (minimum of 15 hours required)
● This position is NOT a hybrid position, and the applicant chosen should be able to
commit to a minimum of 3 days in-office
● Work nights and weekends, as needed (i.e. student tailgates, workshops)
