Justification:
Atkins Library’s oral history program is an important component of Special Collections’ efforts to preserve and share the history and culture of UNC Charlotte and the Charlotte region. SCUA faculty, staff, and students work together to conduct, collect, and process oral history interviews and associated materials. Creating metadata necessary to contextualize oral histories and make them findable and accessible via our Goldmine repository is a time-consuming activity and backlogs in processing can quickly accumulate as our projects grow. Having additional staff to assist with these tasks will significantly shorten the amount of time between accessioning and making oral histories publicly available. Additionally, the student will be able to help with promotion of the collection as a historical and scholarly resource.
