About the Internship

The Procurement Department is looking for an Inventory Control intern to join their team! This internship offers students the chance to contribute to the Port Authority's Warehouse & Inventory Management Division, a team central to supporting facility operations and emergency preparedness. Interns will gain hands-on experience with logistics, contract management, and surplus recovery. The role provides exposure to both day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives, giving students a unique perspective on how inventory and resource management drive the agency's mission of operational excellence. By the end of the internship, participants will have developed practical skills in supply chain management, problem-solving, and cross-department collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the process of updating data in the SAP inventory management system to properly categorize warehouse items.

  • Expedite open orders by contacting vendors to determine delivery dates.

  • Support projects to enhance the division's operation and increase customer service.

  • Analyze and research sustainable and environmentally friendly products to implement into warehouse inventory.

  • Assist in resolving vendor billing issues.

  • Help implement innovative technology solutions, including AI-driven tools, to optimize supply chain management and improve efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship

  • Major in Supply Chain Management or a related discipline

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge and interest in Logistics, Inventory Management, and Procurement.

  • Ability to solve problems and demonstrate a high level of customer service.

  • Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region

  • Interest in public service and/or transportation

  • Willingness to learn.

Internship Details

  • The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026

  • The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026

  • This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)

  • In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days, or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
