Job Description
The Department of Counseling’s mission is to prepare students to be socially responsible leaders in a diverse global society. Faculty provide a challenging and supportive environment that encourages personal growth and development. The master’s degree program trains students to translate sound theoretical knowledge and research into effective clinical practice. In a rigorous and integrated program of study, students acquire a strong theoretical grounding in human development, counseling paradigms, and change strategies. We offer concentrations in the following areas: Clinical Mental Health, School Counseling, Addictions Counseling.
The Project
Recruitment
• Respond to email and phone inquiries
• Manage websites
• Update program flyers
• Create and manage social media presence
• Support with organizing recruitment and student events
• Update recruitment contact list
Admissions
• Download and organize applicant data
• Organize the applicant names for review by faculty members
• Communicate with faculty about their assigned applicants to review
• Collect faculty reviews, compiling their ratings and document reviews in Slate
• Sort ratings and determining who is invited for interviews
• Notify applicants who are invited for interviews
• Prepare the interview day agenda
• Notify applicants who receive interviews of the interview agenda, log-on instructions, and troubleshoot help
• Plan new student orientation
• Communicate with faculty to organize their small group interview rooms
• Host interview day and troubleshoot any faculty or applicant access issues
• Compile faculty ratings of interviewed applicants
• Field emails from waitlisted applicants who want to be admitted
Program Activities
• Plan program open forums and distinguished alumni speakers
• Plan doctoral social events
• Help with managing the new student doctoral council
• Help with organizing Engaged Leadership Initiative (ELI) Fellows
• Assist with Doctoral Steering Committee agenda development
Program Evaluation
• Prepare for external reviews
• Assist with SACs reporting
• Organize data from GPDNet Graduate School Data
Instruction
• Help to develop Canvas courses
• Enter data in our data management system
Scheduling
• Assist with revisions of 3-year plan with student and faculty input
• Develop schedules with student and faculty input
• Create questionnaires to gather student input on course needs
• Maintain spreadsheets for tracking student degree progress
Learning Experience
The individual in this position will be supervised by a Graduate Program Director. In this role, they will gain experience in admissions processes, recruitment and outreach, develop communication skills, event planning and coordination skills, and have exposure to faculty which can lead to opportunities for mentorship.
