Job Description

As a non-sworn, but highly visible member of the department, crime prevention will be the primary goal while fostering increased interaction with the campus community. Provide security to resident students, faculty and staff. Patrols residence halls, academic buildings, parking areas, common areas and light rail platform. 

  • Provide a highly visible presence both on foot and by means of vehicular patrol within the parking lots/decks, academic and non-academic buildings on campus
  • Provide student escorts
  • As a supplement to the regular full time sworn police force, CSR’s will provide escorts both on foot and in vehicles.
  • CSR’s will be assigned to respond to MV Jumpstarts and building lockouts in the absence of a full-time ranger
  • Assist officers as needed with responses to medical calls and fire alarms to escort fire/medical on scene
  • CSR’s will ride along with officers and be required to complete a designated training program to include procedure, protocol, campus geography, radio usage, ethics. This will be presented in a classroom portion and practical applications etc.
  • As a branch of the UNC Charlotte Police Department all CSR’s will conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.
  • CSR’s will be on duty during the stated hours above or as needed for additional events such as Football, Basketball, Speakers, Commencement as well as others determined to require this level of staffing 20 hours per week maximum.
  • Provide support for special events
  • Provides motorist assistance
  • Direct responsibility for secure handing of sensitive and/or confidential information
  • Direct responsibility for the care, safety, and security of vulnerable populations (non-student minors or animals)
  • Other duties at the determination and discretion of the Chief of Police
  • Direct access to, or responsibility for, information or areas designated by the University as safety or security sensitive.
  • Direct responsibility for daily, or regular, operation of State or University owned vehicle
