Graduate Assistantship

Job Description
***This is an hourly only position, there is no tuition waver.***
The Graduate Assistant for the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) at UNC Charlotte will provide operational support for major programs and events such the Undergraduate Research Conference, the Summer Symposium, and other research showcase events on campus. The Graduate Assistant will also assist with programming and professional development initiatives for undergraduates in the Scholars, Micro-Research, and research awareness programs. The Graduate Assistant will be coordinating all social media and communication to increase the visibility of "research" to all incoming students while also assisting in the development of modules for Learning Communities. The Graduate Assistant will also assist with assessment/evaluation for the office.
- Minimum Requirements: Full-time Masters or Doctoral Level Student. Candidates must be in good conduct standing with the University.
- Expected: The ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of students, faculty, and administrators. The ability to think critically and creatively to engage individuals from multiple disciplines and perspectives. Strong interpersonal, organizational, management and communication skills. Experience with standard Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and basic statistical analysis.
- Preferred Experience and Skills: Experience with REUs or other similar programs, knowledge of Scholarly literature of High Impact Practices and REU assessments, experience with program assessment and student success outcomes.
Responsibilities:
Programming
- Provide operational support and development for existing conferences and symposiums with a focus on enhancing processes and expanding participation
- Research opportunities across campus and beyond to create a high level of awareness in students about “research” to expand usage; specifically targeting URMs and first/second year students
- Assist Associate Director in tracking attendance at professional development workshops, review make-up assignments, and assist in the securing of potential guest speakers
Assessment/Evaluation
- Develop, implement, and maintain a robust data collection process that helps the office understand usage statistics, ROI of educational programs and services, and impact on student learning. Use of excel, pre-post surveys, and data dashboards will be used
- Maintain clean data and information on student and faculty involvement in the Scholars Programs; students applied versus hired, projects submitted by faculty versus those filled
Additional Operations
- Manage social media schedule, spotlight program, media advertisements, and website as needed
- Potentially supervise undergraduate students who support marketing, event volunteering, and other office operations
- Attend OUR and URC staff meetings to gain full exposure to an undergraduate research office; shadow director and associate director on campus wide meetings and committees
This is a one year position with option of renewal.
