Position Summary

Mt. Mitchell Foods is seeking a confident, resilient, and adaptable Entry-Level Cost Accountant. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate who can think clearly, manage multiple priorities, and communicate effectively in a rapidly changing environment.

Confidence is essential for this position. We need someone who is comfortable speaking up, asking direct questions, following up when information is missing, and respectfully pushing for answers. The successful candidate will not be timid about approaching managers or coworkers to resolve an issue.

Responsibilities

• Assist with product costing, cost analysis, and inventory valuation
• Review material, labor, overhead, and production costs
• Analyze cost variances and clearly communicate findings
• Support month-end closing and account reconciliations
• Prepare reports for management and operational teams
• Maintain accurate financial and inventory records
• Work directly with purchasing, production, operations, and accounting personnel
• Confidently request information and follow up across departments
• Manage multiple assignments and competing deadlines
• Help document and improve accounting processes and controls
• Support additional accounting and analytical projects as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Recent graduates and candidates with up to two years of experience are encouraged to apply
• Basic understanding of cost accounting and generally accepted accounting principles
• Strong Excel, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Careful attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
• Confident, clear, and professional verbal and written communication
• Willingness to speak up, ask questions, and respectfully push for answers
• Resilience and the ability to remain composed under pressure
• Comfort receiving clear, direct, and immediate feedback
• Ability to learn from mistakes and recover quickly from setbacks
• Ability to work productively with different personalities
• Professional, dependable, resourceful, and comfortable taking ownership

Experience with food production, manufacturing, inventory, or ERP systems is helpful but not required.

Systems and Training

Mt. Mitchell Foods uses Fishbowl ERP and QuickBooks. Previous experience with either system is helpful but not required. We will provide training to the right candidate.
