About Earth, Environmental, and Geographical Sciences
The Department of Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences is comprised of physical, natural and social scientists from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds. Our mission is to create, extend and disseminate applied and theoretical scientific knowledge of the Earth’s physical, natural and human systems and their interactions through scholarly research, teaching and service.

The Project
The student would provide field assistance to an MS student who is mapping landslides and other geomorphic features of the Uwharrie National Forest. Assistant will help to carry equipment, provide feedback on field observations, note taking, and overall field support. Transportation will be provided from UNC Charlotte campus as required but will not count towards the work hours. Student must supply their own food and drink.

Learning Experience
Student will gain experience in working in difficult conditions in the outdoors, making observations about Earth surface processes, learning about landslide hazards, practice good field note taking best practices, and providing logistical support for field science.

Outcomes
Field assistant will work with MS Student to determine the timing of all outings, participate in all outings (expected about 5 total days for 8 hours each). The final outcome of the work will be a surficial geologic map of the area visited that the MS student will complete based on the field work. UNC Charlotte Gig Training Program
