Duration & Type: 3-month, Co-Op Internship

About Us

Queen City Scooters began in 2019 from a personal mission to help others experience the life-changing independence that electric mobility provides, growing from a small pop-up into one of the few authorized e-scooter repair shops on the East Coast. We've built our reputation on honest service, quality repairs, and comprehensive electrical diagnostics while expanding into manufacturing Made in America products that push the boundaries of micro-mobility innovation. This is an exciting time to join our team as we're actively building the future of accessible electric transportation, and we're passionate about giving students hands-on opportunities to gain real-world experience while becoming part of Charlotte's growing clean mobility industry.

The Opportunity

You'll contribute to R&D for prototype battery charging stations and charging bays for e-scooter networks. We need someone to help us solve real engineering problems around power systems, energy storage, and charging efficiency. You'll work on functional prototypes that we plan to deploy locally as well as wide range power-platform controllers

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and test power system architectures for multi-vehicle charging stations
  • Research energy storage solutions and optimize battery management systems
  • Conduct electrical testing using standard lab equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies)
  • Build prototype charging bay configurations for different scooter types
  • Document test results and contribute to technical specifications
  • Prototype PCB layouts and embedded control systems
  • Analyze charging algorithms and develop communication protocols
  • Work with the team on sustainable design and grid integration challenges

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Currently pursuing BS in Electrical Engineering
  • Coursework in power systems, circuit analysis, or energy systems
  • Experience using electrical testing equipment
  • Understanding of battery technologies and charging principles
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or similar engineering software
  • Ability to work independently on technical problems
  • Comfortable in a small team environment

Nice-to-Have:

  • CAD software experience (Altium, KiCad, AutoCAD Electrical)
  • Familiarity with battery systems or electric vehicle components
  • Embedded systems programming (C/C++, Arduino, Raspberry Pi)

What You'll Gain:

  • Experience with power systems design and testing
  • Exposure to product development from concept to prototype
  • Mentorship from experienced engineers
  • Potential for full-time employment after graduation
  • Work that directly impacts local transportation infrastructure
  • Engineering royalties
