Agency Information: The NC Office of Indigent Services (https://www.ncids.org) trains, qualifies, and sets performance standards for attorneys, as well as determines the most appropriate and cost-effective methods for delivering legal defense services in each of the state’s
judicial districts. It is committed to recruiting North Carolina’s most talented attorneys to represent indigent defendants and to providing those attorneys with the resources they need to be effective.
Project Information: IDS is seeking a student to complete a two-part project: the first part of the project is to update a crisis resource list to include all national numbers, confirm they are accurate, and complete it in a format that can be printed in a foldable brochure. The second part of the
project is to review a jury duty resource brochure and update it to reflect possible symptoms and subsequent support strategies to jury members hearing distressing events as part of the jury duty process.
The individual should have a phone that has both calling and texting capabilities and be able to communicate to the hotlines that the information obtained is to ensure accuracy versus seeking crisis support.
Students best suited for this position are students in the field of social work and/or students with a strong desire to increase individual access to community resources and supports.
This position will be for 40 hours and will be able to be completed 100% remotely and within the timeframe allowed by The Gig Training Program.
Learning Experience and Outcomes: The student will gain insight into resources available when an individual is in crisis. The student will also gain knowledge of potential impact of being part of a jury trial, along with subsequent resources to access. Upon completion of this project, the student will have increased acquisition of writing skills, enhanced organizational skills.
The student will receive guidance from a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as to content and organization; the student will be encouraged to enhance this process through her/his/their own creative ideas to make the final
product organized and readable.
