Job Description
This role is ideal for a Human Resources College Major or a recent College graduate looking to gain experience in the industry. Ascend is flexible with a schedule while obtaining degree. Hourly rate $17.50 – 19.00/hr.
Ascend Nonprofit Solutions is a nonprofit agency providing Shared Services, including IT support, Finance and HR to partner nonprofit agencies throughout the Charlotte community.
The Human Resources Intern will be responsible for managing daily activities within the Human Resources Department. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with attention to detail, ability to effectively prioritize, multi-task and operate with a high level of flexibility and commitment. The successful candidate will emanate the values and missions of both Ascend and its constituent agencies.
Essential Functions:
- Create and maintain all personnel files according to applicable laws.
- Maintain and enter I-9 documents into E-Verify as required by USCIS standards.
- Enter and maintain all personnel information in HRIS and timekeeping systems including changes, adjustments and reporting.
- Assists with coordinating and scheduling phone screens, on-site interviews and video conferences.
- Assists with and reviews pre-employment screening. Performs all background checks for volunteers/interns/new hires and communicate results in a timely manner
- Assist with onboarding new employees.
- Assist with maintain timekeeping system
- General administrative duties including mailings, employment verifications, exit interviews and garnishments.
- Maintain and track driver's, TB and vaccine programs.
- Assist in preparing reports for agency management and other departments, as needed.
- Assist Talent Acquisition in reviewing resumes including administrative duties such as corresponding and coordinating phone screens, on-site interviews and video conferences.
- Assist in initiating and tracking pre-employment background screening.
- Assist Benefits with administrative duties such as gathering carrier invoices, planning and organizing events like flu shot clinics and lunch-and-learns and generating reports as needed.
- Performs other duties as directed by the HR Manager or Chief HR Officer.
Minimum Qualifications
- Evidence of working toward a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field
- Service delivery experience
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to juggle multiple competing priorities
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite products
- Valid Driver's License

Physical Requirements Works in an office environment. Requires sitting and standing, driving automobile, operating computer and multi-line telephone, occasional lifting of documents and supplies. Responsible for working in a safe manner. May have to stand for long periods of time.
- Required Travel: Minimal (10% or less)
