Hours/Week: 40 hours / Non-exempt
Purpose:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in product and process design process including the research, design and development of systems, prototype generation, tooling design and procurement of tooling for machines and equipment for new and existing products.
- Assist in implementing automation processes and automation changes/improvements as required.
- Apply working knowledge of product design and assembly to the manufacturing process including assembly machine adjustments and improvements.
- Review manufacturing mold repairs and modifications.
- Provide training as needed to production personnel for assembly and/or testing.
- Design/evaluate technical drawings and instructions for manufactured parts using 2D/3D CAD systems.
- Evaluate processes, procedures and equipment to ensure ISO9001/AS9100 compliance.
- Generate and maintain revision-controlled documentation.
- Participates in the root cause analysis and resolution of quality and productivity issues.
- Assist with scheduling and oversee preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Review 3D design files for equipment changes, repairs and new products.
- Review confirmations from suppliers to ensure they comply with specifications.
- Evaluate physical plant capacities in order to help plan production expansions.
- Inspect drawings, designs and products from suppliers to ensure they meet specifications.
- Project management including establishing and maintaining project timelines with minimum direct supervision.
- Must be able to solve problems as they arise, develop quality testing and evaluate the engineering process / standards for safety compliance and environmental regulations for various product lines.
- Create and document processes that assist the company in meeting budgetary and performance goals.
- Work with tools such as robots, instrumentation, programmable controllers and electronic/pneumatic actuators.
- Individual assignments may vary as needed. Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Analytical skills: identify elements in the manufacturing process that may not be optimal and then formulate alternatives to improve the performance of those elements.
- Business skills: meet cost goals through analysis of and recommendation for efficiency, requiring knowledge of standard business practices, as well as knowledge of commercial law. Proficient with a variety of computer programs.
- Communication skills: articulate analytical information in laymen’s terms. Excellent communication, analytical, facilitation and negotiation skills required.
- Critical thinking skills: translate a set of issues into requirements and figure out why a particular design or process is inefficient; ask the right questions and find acceptable answers.
- Problem-solving skills: use education and experience to upgrade designs and troubleshoot problems when meeting new demands, such as increased efficiency of machinery and labor and logistics.
- Writing skills: be able to explain information clearly and create documentation for reference.
Qualifications - Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or related field required. Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred, including automation used in plastic injection molding or assembly processes and the product design process. Engineering role with experience in automation equipment used for assembly and/or measurement of components. Working knowledge of robotics (servo, motion controllers) and PLC based control systems with 0-3 years minimum experience. Strong organizational and analytical skills needed. Excellent written and oral communication is essential. Must have reliable transportation. Must have a passport or be able to obtain one within 6 months of employment and be willing to travel 0% - 10%.

You must have 20/20 corrected eyesight.
Work Environment:
The work environment is generally noisy, and the employee regularly works around dust, oil, electrical devices and mechanically moving parts. Safety glasses are required while on the plant floor. While performing the duties of this job, the associate regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The warehouse is not temperature controlled. Must be comfortable working in a high-speed production environment.

Supervision:
The Product Process Engineer I will be under the direct supervision of the Product Process Engineer II. Requests for time off, calling in sick, and any other concerns will be directed to the Product Process Engineer II for approval.
Hours:
Full-time; forty (40) hours of work are required per week. This position is exempt. You may be required to be on-call for technical issues, work weekends and holidays as requested from your supervisor.
