Job Description

Everytown for Gun Safety, the nation’s largest gun violence prevention advocacy group, is seeking a fall semester Intern to support our Research Department. The Research Department studies how gun violence occurs in America and identifies the best policies and interventions to prevent and address it. In this role, the Intern will contribute to the research of various types of gun violence, who it impacts, and its costs and solutions. Interns are expected to work no more than 15 hours per week.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to multiple research projects, including but not limited to, Everytown’s Community Violence Intervention program implementation and costing guides
  • Conduct and write literature reviews, and critically analyze new research to support both day-to-day and longer-term research on gun violence prevention in the US
  • Contribute to drafts of analytically rigorous and credible research materials, including memos, factsheets, and reports for a wide range of audiences
  • Collect, clean and conduct basic data analysis of gun violence-related datasets
  • Interact regularly with Everytown staff across all departments to ensure effective coordination and delivery of research program activities

Note: This is a remote position.

You will be/have:

  • Enrolled in a Masters program, in either a social science, public health, public administration, economics, or or similar field highly preferred
  • Experience or interest in locating and analyzing programmatic budgets and/or costs
  • Demonstrated ability to write well & produce written materials for non-technical audiences
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience conducting basic data analysis on social science datasets preferred
  • Willingness to take initiative on projects
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent judgment and communication skills

The minimum pay rate for this position is $25.00 per hour.

About the Hiring Process

We are accepting applications on a rolling basis and will review them, and reach out to the candidates who meet the requirements of the position.

  • Candidates that are moved into the recruitment process will receive a request to submit a copy of their writing sample. Writing sample maximum length is 2 pages.
  • Candidates that advance to the next step of the recruitment process, will be invited to meet with a member on the hiring team for a 30-minute phone interview.
  • Team Interview - candidates that advance from the phone interview step will meet with 2 other members of the recruitment team for a 30-45 minute virtual interview.
  • Final Candidates will meet with the Department Heads in the Research Department.
