About us:

Ibis Reproductive Health is an international nonprofit organization with a mission to drive change through bold, rigorous research and principled partnerships that advance sexual and reproductive autonomy, choices, and health worldwide. We believe that research can catalyze change when the entire research process is viewed as an opportunity to shift power, is undertaken in partnership with the communities most affected, and includes focus on how data can be most effectively used to make change. We focus on increasing access to quality abortion care, transforming access to abortion and contraception through technology and service innovations, and expanding comprehensive sexual and reproductive health information and services. Our offices are in Cambridge, MA; Johannesburg, South Africa; and Oakland, CA, with several staff working remotely. 

Internship description:

We seek 2-3 interns with a strong commitment to the advancement of reproductive health, rights, and justice and the ability to provide research, communications, and/or administrative support to Ibis staff. We are seeking one intern to support with communications and graphic design for our Free the Pill and Studying Accompaniment model Feasibility and Effectiveness (SAFE) projects, and 1-2 interns to support qualitative and quantitative research studies, including projects focused on abortion and contraception access.  Applicants should be comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously, interacting with people from diverse backgrounds, and have experience with or interest in reproductive health research and advocacy. 

Desired qualifications and skills 

For research-focused interns: 

  • Attention to detail and discretion  
  • Self-directed workstyle and time management  
  • Access to a private setting to conduct screening calls with study participants 
  • Interest and/or experience with literature reviews, qualitative coding and analysis and its relevant software (Dedoose, MAXQDA, etc.) 
  • Interest/experience working in quantitative studies, such as tracking and analyzing survey data; data cleaning skills a plus 
  • Interest/experience working with diverse communities and populations (ex. BIPOC, LGBTQIA, etc.) 

For communications-focused interns: 

  • Strong written communication skills 
  • Experience with web design, developing social media content/toolkits, including video, a plus 
  • Ability to work in Spanish is a plus 

Internship timeline and format:

These positions are expected to begin in late April or early May. Ideally, each of the positions will require a time commitment of 20-30 hours a week, however, this may vary depending on the candidate’s availability. A modest stipend (minimum of $3,000 for part-time work) is available, though the exact amount is dependent on funding availability. We also welcome applications from students receiving work study or practicum/school credit.  This position is based in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor work visas at this time.
