This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Geotechnical Engineer to support our Asheville, NC location. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 

Your Impact

  • Perform engineering investigations and design support tasks under the direction of senior engineering professionals
  • Perform laboratory and field tests according to prescribed procedures, processes, and standards
  • Collect soil samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary reports
  • Observe and document routine construction operations and write routine field reports
  • Assist and observe contractor work on construction projects and interact with client, contractor or subcontractor representatives accordingly
  • Perform a variety of non-technical tasks designed to assist others in preparing for and/or conducting office, laboratory or field activities

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 0-1 years of relevant work experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with excellent analytical abilities, leadership ability, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to work both independently and within groups
  • Competence in the Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is necessary
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software - AutoCAD, GINT, Slide, etc.
  • FE/EIT (or ability to obtain EIT within 1 year) required
  • Valid driver’s license 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineer in Training Certification
  • Some prior experience in field and laboratory testing, geotechnical drilling, or construction inspection. 
  • Knowledge of construction methods and practices.
