Job Description

Position: Internal Communications Intern 

Location: Charlotte, NC 

Position Overview: Columbus McKinnon is looking for an internal communications intern to join its global marketing organization. In this role, you will help the marketing organization support its internal communications efforts for employees worldwide. This individual will work hand in hand with our Senior Specialist of Internal Communications, Human Resources, and other staff functions to effectively inform our employees and enhance engagement and retention. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Work on a key project to support employee engagement at Columbus McKinnon, including developing a peer-to-peer employee recognition program. 
  • Management of news creation and publishing for CMCO Connect, our global intranet site, and our global TV communications system. 
  • Work together with a cross-functional team of HR and marketing on all projects as assigned.  
  • Serve as a proofreading resource for the marketing department for all print and digital media.  
  • Maintain company image, incorporating this into all communications efforts.  
  • Complete special projects as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities:  

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Strong proofreading skills are also a must. Journalism experience is a plus. 
  • Experience writing for a variety of print and digital media.  
  • Individual should have a working knowledge of digital communication tools and Microsoft Office. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is also beneficial.  
  • Ability to work with key personnel from various departments and backgrounds to support marketing projects and initiatives. 
  • Close attention to detail and sense of urgency.  
  • Creative writing and design experience are a plus. 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Junior or senior-level college student studying in a marketing, journalism, or communications-related field.   
  • General marketing knowledge and/or experience.  
  • Must be able to work full time from June 2, 2025 to August 8, 2025.  
  • Applicants must have authorization to work in the United States. Sponsorship is not available for this role. 

Compensation

Compensation:  $20.00/hour + benefits 

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in incentive plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
