Job Description

The goal of the City of Charlotte’s General Services Department is to guide agencies through innovative and efficient deployment of resources to meet their missions and fulfill the needs of the city in a rapidly evolving and complex environment. The Department will design and deliver expanded, shared services across departments and for the City of Charlotte to improve performance and save taxpayer money. General Services consists of capital project management, fleet services, procurement, environmental services, property management, and other support services.OVERVIEW

FUNCTION Professional

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Assistant Division Manager and other Division staff with activities related to projects using alternate delivery methods.
  • Provide support for grant administration.
  • Oversee progress, track milestones and pay invoices on Developer Agreements
  • Assist in planning, organizing, preparing project-related visuals and exhibits, and participating in public engagement.
  • Track and report on various aspects of projects managed by the Division.
  • Assists in the calculation and review of cost estimates and project budgets.
  • May also involve some project management duties.
  • Performs related duties as required.

  • Ability to independently manage the delivery of professional services to many internal and external customers.
  • Ability to provide a wide array of technical services in the transportation field.

  • Ability to operate or learn to operate Engineering-related computer software, such as AutoCAD and ArcGIS. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. 
  • Ability to exhibit good customer service skills. 
  • Ability to communicate strong interpersonal skills such as tact, active listening, respect, and calmness. 
  • Ability to demonstrate strong organizational skills to effectively manage multiple assignments
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record and ability to receive and maintain a City Driving Permit

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

  • Engineering In Training (EI) is preferred
  • Previous engineering or construction management experience demonstrating progressive responsibility in civil engineering or municipal transportation capital improvement projects is desirable
  • Previous design or technical planning experience in civil engineering projects is desirable

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field and at least one year of experience.  

SALARY

  • $71,486 - $89,358 Commensurate with experience
