Job Description

ACTFL is seeking an intern to work in the area of assessment development and research. The intern will assist with a variety of projects related to the development of ACTFL assessments, as well as ongoing research-related activities. Part of the internship will be administrative, in addition to the activities and tasks aligned with the critical mission of the department. The intern will receive a $4000 honorarium and will work remotely for 20 hours per week for eight weeks (June 10 – August 9, 2024). The deadline to submit applications is April 15, 2024. The intern will gain experience working with a multilingual and dynamic language assessment and research team.

Responsibilities:

The Intern position activities and tasks may include any or all of the following:

  • Review and organize materials for various aspects of assessment design and development,
  • Conduct pilot testing
  • Participate in prompt selection and item writing process,
  • Review items,
  • Code qualitative pilot test data,
  • Prepare materials for use in research studies,
  • Edit and proofread reports,
  • Contribute to other projects critical to the mission of the department.

Requirements:

Candidates must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college/university pursuing a degree, specialization, or minor in world languages, language education, linguistics, or language testing. Recent graduates may also be considered. Candidates must also be eligible to work in the United States.

Required qualifications:

  • Proficiency in English and one or more world languages,
  • Familiarity with ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines and the suite of proficiency and performance tests currently offered by ACTFL,
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills,
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a remote setting,
  • Adept use of Microsoft Office Suite to create reports, graphs, tables, and presentations.

Preferred qualifications:

  • High level of proficiency in Spanish
  • Experience in world language teaching and/or testing,
  • Experience conducting research (collecting and analyzing data), and
  • Experience with course design and learning management systems.
