Job Description

Tax & Accounting Internship — Spring 2027

Terry V. Aaseby, CPA, PLLC | Matthews, NC
January 18–April 30, 2027 | In person | $17 per hour
15–20 hours per week, with flexibility around your class schedule

Your first experience in public accounting should give you meaningful work, people you can learn from, and a team that wants to see you succeed.

At Terry V. Aaseby, CPA, PLLC, our interns work alongside our CPA team to gain hands-on tax preparation experience while supporting the individuals and small businesses we serve. We’re a growing firm with a family-like culture: we work hard, help each other, celebrate accomplishments, and enjoy having fun together.

What You’ll Do

Most of your work will focus on individual income tax preparation and supporting our tax-season workflow. Responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing individual income tax returns under the guidance and review of our CPA team.

  • Organizing, scanning, and reviewing client tax documents for completeness.

  • Identifying missing information and, as directed, contacting clients with questions or requests.

  • Tracking assignments and communicating progress through Monday.com.

  • Assisting with bookkeeping, accounting, and account reconciliations as opportunities arise.

  • Supporting document management, database cleanup, and other administrative or special projects.

You’ll be expected to handle confidential information carefully, follow firm procedures, and take the time to complete your work accurately.

Training & Experience

You’ll receive training and guidance from our CPA team, lead intern, and Practice Manager. Through your work, you’ll gain experience with:

  • Intuit ProConnect Tax: Individual income tax preparation and the preparation-and-review process.

  • Monday.com: Assignment tracking, workflow organization, and team communication.

  • QuickBooks Online: Potential exposure to small business bookkeeping and accounting.

  • Professional skills: Client communication, collaboration, time management, and applying feedback.

We can also work with your university to support internship-credit requirements.

Who Will Thrive Here

We’re looking for someone who is eager to learn, takes initiative, and enjoys being part of a team. A successful intern will:

  • Maintain consistent attendance and communicate proactively about scheduling, questions, and progress.

  • Pay close attention to detail and prioritize accuracy while working toward deadlines.

  • Multitask effectively, stay organized across multiple assignments, and adapt to changing priorities without sacrificing accuracy.

  • Ask thoughtful questions, welcome feedback, and apply what they learn.

  • Collaborate with coworkers and contribute wherever help is needed.

  • Take ownership of assignments and follow through reliably.

Junior and senior accounting students who have completed—or are currently enrolled in—an individual income tax course are preferred. We will also consider other students who demonstrate strong potential and a sincere interest in tax and accounting.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Pay: $17 per hour.

  • Hours: Approximately 15–20 hours per week, scheduled around your classes.

  • Additional hours: May be available based on your availability and firm needs.

  • Saturdays: Optional opportunities to work during peak tax season; Saturdays are not required.

  • Location: This internship is fully in person at our Matthews, NC office.

A Place to Grow

We view our internship program as an opportunity to develop future accountants and build lasting professional relationships. One of our former interns joined us as a full-time accountant, earned his CPA license, and now serves as a Senior Tax Accountant.

Depending on performance and firm needs, opportunities may be available to continue with the firm beyond the internship.
