About the Position

BRAC USA seeks an intern to report to the Senior Manager, Business Development to support the proposal development of our US government (USG) business. We anticipate having multiple opportunities in the pipeline and a number of live proposals the intern will be able to get practical experience working on. We expect the intern to support proposal development, including, but not limited to, opportunity identification, partnering, writing, formatting, copyediting, and overall strategic design. This position is ideal for a candidate seeking a career in USG-funded international development programming.

This is a paid, part-time internship. The hourly pay will be $15.00 or the applicable state minimum wage where the successful candidate works remotely. The ideal candidate will be able to work remotely 15-20 hours per week, with availability in the mornings Monday - Thursday. Candidates must be available for international calls as early as 7 AM EST. This internship is expected to begin on June 3, 2024, and will continue for 10 weeks. 

BRAC USA staff work in a hybrid work environment that includes both in-office and remote work arrangements. This position will be based in the Northeast, with a preference for candidates located in the DC or New York area.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Learn USG, in particular USAID and Department of State, strategies and processes for business
  • Support BRAC USA’s USG proposal development at all levels, including opportunity identification, partnering, writing, formatting, copyediting, and overall strategic design
  • Manage data related to BRAC’s USG pipeline 
  • Prepare meeting briefs, join calls with external partners, capture notes and action items  
  • Develop capacity statements across technical areas
  • Assist team members with systems and database management 
  •  Attend industry learning events and share key takeaways with team members
  • Update country briefs to track USG funding by sector and anticipate future funding opportunities

Qualifications and Experience

  • Current undergraduate, graduate student, or recent graduate in a relevant field; if a BA student, preference will be given to rising seniors 
  • Willingness to learn and demonstrated interest in working with USAID and Department of State programming
  • Basic qualitative and quantitative research skills (no software experience necessary)
  • Interest or previous work experience in Africa or Asia
  • Ability to manage tasks in a fast-paced, team-oriented virtual environment
  • Flexible and able to work remotely, independently, and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in remote and diverse teams
  • Deadline and task-oriented
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • Proactive team player with strong desire to learn
