Job Description
Position Summary
The Production Shift Leader is responsible for overseeing daily production activities during the assigned shift. This role ensures that production targets are met safely, efficiently, and with consistent product quality. The Shift Leader provides direct supervision to production operators, coordinates workflow, addresses issues on the production line, and supports continuous improvement initiatives to optimize overall performance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise a team of production operators during the assigned shift.
Ensure production lines operate according to daily schedules and production plans.
Assign tasks, monitor performance, and ensure all employees follow SOPs and safety rules.
Monitor production processes, machine performance, and product quality.
Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and escalate problems to maintenance or engineering.
Ensure proper material flow, line changeovers, and shift handovers.
Enforce all company safety policies, including PPE, lockout/tagout, and cleanroom requirements (if applicable).
Conduct safety checks and immediately address unsafe behaviors or conditions.
Assist in incident reporting and corrective action implementation.
Ensure adherence to quality standards and specifications throughout the shift.
Perform basic quality checks and support QA in resolving non-conformities.
Document production issues, defects, and deviations.
Train new operators on equipment operation, SOPs, and safety procedures.
Provide coaching and feedback to improve employee performance.
Promote teamwork and maintain a positive, productive work environment.
Complete daily production logs, shift reports, and downtime records.
Track output, scrap, efficiency, and any abnormal events.
Communicate effectively with the next shift and management team during handover.
Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, and streamline workflow.
Participate in Lean, 5S, and Kaizen initiatives.
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Technical or vocational training in manufacturing is a plus.
Experience
2–4 years of manufacturing experience required.
Prior team lead, line lead, or supervisory experience preferred.
Experience in battery, chemical, automotive, or cleanroom manufacturing is a plus.
Skills
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Ability to solve problems and make decisions quickly.
Basic mechanical understanding of production equipment.
Ability to enforce discipline and maintain a safe work environment.
Proficiency in basic computer systems (Excel, production reporting software).
Work Environment
Fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Exposure to noise, machinery, chemicals, or cleanroom conditions depending on department.
Shift work required (day, night, weekend, or rotating shifts).
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand or walk for long periods.
Ability to lift up to 40–50 lbs as needed.
