Job Description
The Matthews Area Chamber of Commerce is a 300+ member organization dedicated to supporting, promoting, and connecting businesses in the Town of Matthews and surrounding areas. As a leading business advocacy group, the Chamber provides networking opportunities, professional development, community events, marketing support, and a unified voice for the local business community. Our mission is to strengthen economic vitality, champion local enterprises, and foster a thriving, collaborative environment where businesses and residents can flourish.
The Project
This 40-hour project offers a UNC Charlotte student the opportunity to conduct a focused analysis of the Matthews business community and help the Chamber prepare a forward-looking 2026 economic outlook.
Business Research & Data Collection
Conduct interviews or distribute surveys to 10–15 local businesses.
Collect publicly available economic data relevant to Matthews and the Charlotte region (workforce, growth trends, new development, transportation, etc.).
Analysis & Summary of Insights
Identify key themes such as workforce needs, projected challenges, opportunities for growth, and industry trends.
Summarize findings into clear, concise insights.
Report Development
Organize findings into a professional “2026 State of Business in Matthews” report.
Create supporting charts, graphs, and visuals.
Provide data-backed recommendations for Chamber priorities in 2026.
Presentation Deliverable
Prepare a short slide deck summarizing the report to be used with the Board of Directors & Town partners.
Learning Experience
Real-world experience conducting business and economic research.
Hands-on practice with data collection, interview skills, and synthesis of complex information.
Exposure to economic development principles and Chamber operations.
