UPIP: International Programming (Fall 2024)

UNC Charlotte Office of International Programs

University Professional Internship Program
Closes on Wednesday, May 29, 2024

Job Description

(1) the scope and purpose of a project or assignment
The Office of International Programs (OIP) is seeking an intern with prior administrative and event planning experience to assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of our Fall 2024 Programs. The intern will primarily be responsible for follow-up with marketing and preparation for the International Festival (I-fest) and developing a post I-fest evaluation guide to be used in the future, as well as assisting with critical aspects for the I-fest (e.g., volunteer recruitment, management, etc.) and other aspects of the Office of Global Education and Engagement. After I-fest, the UPIP intern will be involved in implementation of the International Education Week events.
(2) skills required to do the job
An ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and team oriented. The candidate will work in an autonomous fashion given training and guidance. The candidate should be extremely detail-oriented and skilled in time management. Additionally, the candidate should have exemplary communication skills (written and verbal) as well as cultural awareness/understanding.
(3) any special time frames needed
As much of our planning takes place during the summer with fall semester implementation and evaluation, the time frame we would like to see is August-December 2024. As such, for consistency with the academic calendar, we would look at the beginning of the fall 2024 semester as a start point and  December 6 as the end point if possible.
(4) outcomes expected
The project will be approached in several stages:

  • Work with the OGEE Director and Coordinator on the I-fest 2024 marketing plan
  • analyze existing documents which detail various tasks to plan OIP events
  • oversee key logistical areas leading up to and on the day of event(s)
  • reflect on ‘timeline’ of the preparation process with an eye of where/how to streamline
  • offer feedback for future process(es) / approach(es) to be presented to supervisor/mentor and relevant office staff
  • Assist with event planning for International Education Week

The project provides comprehensive project management experience and offers an opportunity to strengthen the assessment work for the program.
(5) department goal the internship will support
Assistance with marketing I-fest. The process of creating an evaluation guide will support an ongoing departmental goal to gather and compile key programmatic information. A student intern will assist OIP in moving toward our goal of increased strategies for student-focused engagement for our programmatic portfolio. Having a student fully engaged with the project management elements, including IEW events, infuses an ongoing student lens that the professional staff greatly values.

Additionally, input on the overall program logistics and post-program evaluation will be helpful as OIP continually seek to streamline our approach to various tasks.
