Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to research, develop, implement, analyze and continuously improve the Environmental Health and Safety program.
  • Research regulatory standards, industry best practices and university operations.
  • Prepare and enforce policies, procedures and programs to establish a culture of health and safety.
  • Stays current on emerging trends and advises management on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions.
  • Update programs to maintain compliance.
  • Prepare reports and ensure all records are maintained
  • Develop and maintain a health and safety planning and operational calendar.
  • Develop operational budget needs and justify major expenditures.
  • Implements health and safety policies, procedures and programs in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct health and safety compliance audits, measure results, and develop internal controls to ensure institutional regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for routine situations.
  • Guide and direct health and safety and operational committees.
  • Collaborate with department administrators to identify regulatory issues, hazards, update program enrollment inventories and promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Design and implement new programs to address unique health and safety issues.
  • Develop and implement a training and outreach plan.
  • Develop health and safety media communication standards.
  • Provide appropriate health and safety compliance, accident prevention, and investigation training for managers and supervisors.
