Job Description
The Office of Disability Services seeks a Lab Access Aide to assist a student with a disability with interacting safely in a lab, with accessing and understanding visual materials and concepts, and with test-taking. Referrals from the Chemistry Department welcome.
Access Assistant must be available for an estimated 3 hours per week, plus additional time, as needed, on test days to assist student with an in-person CHEM 1251 Lab. The Lab Access Aide will also be needed on test days, but time would vary from the class time and would be planned with assistant and instructor as needed.
Specific Course: CHEM 1251L-W3B
Time: Wednesdays, 2:30 PM- 5:15 PM
Location: KLEIN 235
The Lab Access Aide will meet with student in the lab class, and so any applicant *must* be available during the scheduled lab time (3 hours each week). Provides assistance in lab as well as verbal explanation of visual materials and images to student. Preference given to students with faculty recommendation from CHEM Lab instructor.
- Availability for meeting with student at the scheduled lab class times. Test days and time will vary, and consideration both the Access Aide's schedule and the student's schedule will considered when scheduling.
- Must have experience with and knowledge relevant to the lecture course, as assessed by the UNC Charlotte CHEM faculty.
- Must have successfully completed the following courses with a grade B or better:
- CHEM 1251
- CHEM 1251L
- CHEM 1252
- CHEM 1252L
- Must be comfortable working one-on-one with a student with a disability.
- May need to provide feedback/brainstorm with faculty and Disability Services staff about effective access to materials.
- Must be dependable.
- Must submit time sheets by due dates.
