STW: DS Test Center Scribe - Graduate Level

The Office of Disability Services seeks multiple graduate-level students to join our team as a scribe with the DS Test Center. Disability Services works to ensure that students with disabilities have access to education and campus life at UNC Charlotte. The DS Test Center is designed to support students with disabilities and their faculty by providing testing accommodations in an inclusive, welcoming environment. This position is for Spring 2026. 

Position Summary and DS Scribe Code of Conduct:

The role of a testing scribe is only to transcribe a student's answers verbatim. Scribes do not read test instructions or questions aloud. The scribe will write down or type exactly what the student dictates. The scribe's duties are strictly limited to transcription. 

The scribe is not permitted to provide any assistance with the content of the test, offer hints or suggestions, correct spelling or grammar, or answer questions about the test material. During transcription, the scribe should speak only when asking the student to repeat what was said.

Scheduling:

Testing scribes will only be scheduled to work when a student with that specific accommodation needs to take a test, meaning some weeks they will not work any hours with DS. Hired scribes will not have set weekly hours. Instead, scheduling for the scribe will occur in advance, typically a week to a month before the scribing session, and will be confirmed by the Academic Testing Coordinator for Disability Services via a Google Calendar invite. 

Because course content-knowledge is often needed for scribes to be effective, Disability Services will hire candidates who are directly recommended by the appropriate academic department.

- Have course-specific content knowledge

- Be flexible with scheduling 

- Be recommended by Dr. John Taylor or directly by the MATH Department
