UNC Charlotte Office of Sustainability

Closes on Wednesday, July 1, 2026
Job Description
Zero Waste Stewards play an important role in helping the University achieve waste reduction and diversion goals by assisting the Zero Waste Coordinator with waste assessments and supporting zero waste events on campus. Duties include collecting materials from waste stations, correcting issues with material sorting, assisting event patrons with sorting questions, and helping train volunteers. Physical requirements include working outdoors in most weather conditions, lifting moderate weights, and assisting in the sorting of waste during and after campus events.
Zero Waste Stewards will learn about campus waste diversion initiatives, methods for communicating with the public, and will gain leadership skills.
Each event supported by Zero Waste Stewards will have designated hours for work during the event. Major events (e.g. football games) will have designated hours the following morning to work with volunteers to complete waste sorting and weighing necessary to measure progress towards the zero waste goals of the University. Work will continue under any weather conditions that do not lead to event cancellation
