Job Description: As a Jr. Mechanical Engineer at UPT, you will collaborate with other team members to develop mechanical solutions and perform analysis and testing to meet project deadlines. Collaboration will be with our multidisciplinary team of research and development engineers, scientists, and support staff.  You will work under the direction of our more senior level Mechanical Engineers and/or Project Managers. Occasional travel between UPT sites (Charlotte/Locust). Working in an office environment with hands-on mechanical engineering tasks in a lab, shop floor, and/or warehouse. Ability to lift 30lbs solo. Team lift 30+ lbs. Using your hands to work on mechanical and engineering tasks, as well as utilizing hand and power tools to complete jobs.  

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: BS ME
  • Mechanical Engineer with 6 months - 2+ years’ experience in design and development engineering
  • Professional CAD experience
  • Experience with 3D printing, rapid prototyping and testing
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere
  • Proficient in MS Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with MS Outlook and Teams
  • Strong oral & written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to self-direct and independently solve problems
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Must have critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of use of hand and power tools
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen
  • Occasional project-related travel in the U.S. required
  • MUST BE A US CITIZEN
  • Physical requirements: Work is performed in an office/lab/warehouse environment. Must have the ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and work with hands solving hands-on mechanical engineering tasks

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Education: BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with SolidWorks
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary and distributed teams
  • Experience with machine tools and machine shop operation
  • Professional experience with testing and correlating simulations with physical experiments
  • Involvement with the development of new products
  • Understanding of SBIR and military R&D processes
  • Experience developing and executing test plans for MIL-STD requirements
