Job Description

UREC is accepting applications for Spring 2026. We will be hiring for a limited number of vacancies.

UREC Facility Assistant

  • UNC Charlotte University Recreation is seeking individuals for the position of Facility Assistant (FA). This individual will be the first point of contact at the UREC facility and will be responsible for access control, equipment checkout, maintaining equipment and providing high standards of customer service. 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student in good academic standing at UNC Charlotte
  • Complete CPR/AED, First Aid training within the 30 days of employment
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with others
  • Ability to work morning, afternoon, evening, weekend, and holiday hours as scheduled
  • Ability to work at least 12 hours per week as scheduled 
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in a fitness facility 
  • Experience working in customer service

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

General

  • Conduct shift duties of the UREC Front Desk and Fitness floors during all operational hours, including access control, equipment check out, fitness equipment cleaning, spotting assistance, and other duties as assigned.
  • To represent the University Recreation department in a professional manner at all times
  • Enforcement of all University Recreation programs, policies, and procedures
  • Be able to activate the Emergency Action Plan
  • Assist with equipment setups and teardowns for programs and special events
  • Assist with special projects and tasks as assigned
  • Attend all staff trainings and development sessions when scheduled
  • Maintain a professional appearance while on the clock, including: UREC employee shirt, name tag on at all times, alert disposition while on the floor, etc. 
  • Assist Building Manager as needed with duties such as set-ups, building counts, and monitoring high traffic areas
  • Possess knowledge, ability, and skills to implement University Recreation department’s Emergency Action Plan

Front Desk Operations

  • Greet all patrons as they enter the facility and provide quality customer service
  • Answer phone calls, provide accurate information and/or assistance directing the questions and inquiries to the appropriate person
  • Ensure all UREC patrons have valid memberships upon entry
  • Maintain efficient laundry services and perform other duties as assigned at the front desk

Facility Operations

  • Be visible and available on the UREC floors at all times
  • Inspect machines for damaged or defective parts, and complete maintenance work orders
  • Ensure quality cleanliness and minimized risk factors on the fitness floors

Violations of any federal, state, or local laws and/or any University or departmental policies may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination from a UREC student staff position. Additionally, student staff placed on disciplinary probation or poor University standing by the University’s student accountability or academic integrity process may be terminated from a student staff position at the discretion of the UREC Director based on the individual circumstance.
University Recreation defines good academic standing as having and maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Student staff involved in matters that may impact their Good Conduct Standing with the University have a duty to self-report that they are involved with the Student Accountability Office to their appropriate professional staff member.
