Job Description

Student is responsible for helping to bring this state-of-the-art fabrication laboratory online, ensuring it becomes a hub for creativity, innovation, and advanced manufacturing.

Lab Assistants in the Charlotte Super Fab Lab play a key role in maintaining a safe, efficient, and collaborative environment that supports hands-on learning and innovation across engineering and computer science. They assist with day-to-day lab operations, enforce safety protocols, and ensure equipment is properly maintained and ready for use. Lab Assistants provide guidance and technical support to students during fabrication and prototyping, help facilitate training and workshops, and assist with course integration for projects such as MEGR 2156/2157 and Senior Design. They are expected to troubleshoot system-level problems—from machine faults and software issues to workflow inefficiencies—by diagnosing root causes, communicating with staff, and implementing solutions that improve lab performance. They also support machine scheduling, inventory management, and documentation while promoting a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and creativity. As ambassadors of the Super Fab Lab, Lab Assistants help with tours, outreach, and special events, ensuring the lab remains a welcoming and inspiring space for students, faculty, and partners.
