Position Title: Marketing and Communications Intern

Accountability: Marketing and Communications Intern reports to the Marketing and Communications Manger 

Job Classification: Part-time, internship

About: Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden inspires a love of nature and its beauty through unforgettable outdoor experiences. The nearly 400 acres of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden provides visitors with a chance to reconnect with nature in all seasons. The property welcomes guests to spectacular gardens, a conservatory dedicated to the display of tropical plants and orchids, sparkling fountains, nearly 6 miles of trails and a dog park.

The Marketing Intern is responsible for increasing public engagement with Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden through the creation of digital and print content (primarily social media, email, and website). In this role, the Marketing Intern will work with the Marketing & Development team to plan, design and execute the organization’s marketing campaign strategies. An ideal candidate will be a compelling storyteller who has an eye for design.

Responsibilities:

  • Understands the importance of each guest to the Garden and drives excellence to ensure an optimal experience in every way. 
  • Curate and create digital content.
  • Develop a monthly content plan with the Marketing and Communications Manager and Social Media Coordinator.
  • Supports Social Media Coordinator by capturing photos and videos during programs and at events. 
  • Supports Social Media Coordinator by responding to messages and comments on social media platforms. 
  • Coordinates and contributes written content to Garden Buzz Blog.
  • Coordinates and implements e-newsletter marketing. 
  • Support the organization and implementation of special events.
  • Edit photos and videos to share the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden story.
  • Review and report on social media insights and website analytics.
  • Keep website content updated and consistent.
  • Design graphics for social media posts.
  • Exemplifies the Garden Mission Statement and supports staff, departments and leadership in pursuing and achieving goals. 

Requirements

  • Exhibits a passion for the mission of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.
  • Successfully pass a standard background review. 
  • Must have reliable personal transportation. 
  • Must be willing to wear a uniform and work outside as needed. 
  • Available to work occasional nights and weekends to support events.

Experience & Education:  

  • Pursuing a degree in relevant field (marketing, communications, business, journalism, etc.).
  • Preferred, but not required, coursework or experience in marketing or communications.
  • Experience with videography and photography. 
  • Experience with Canva.
  • Eye for design, photography and videography.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • WordPress experience a plus.
  • Skilled in video editing a plus.
  • Ability to maintain an organized and detailed workflow with changing variables.
  • Comfortable working autonomously as well as working in a team environment.

Location:

The Marketing and Communications Intern will be based at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden in Belmont, NC and will have the opportunity to work remotely sometimes.

Schedule:

The Marketing and Communications Intern will work approximately 24 hours a week. The preferred first day is Tuesday, May 20th and last day is Friday, August 8th. Dates are flexible to meet academic schedules.

Compensation:

The contracted intern will be given a $2,500 stipend to be paid biweekly. Work activities that require the use of a personal vehicle may receive gas mileage reimbursement upon supervisor approval.
