Job Description

TheDepartment of Public Utilities (DPU)is responsible foroversight of investor-owned electric power, natural gas, and water utilities in the Commonwealth; developing alternatives to traditional regulation; monitoring service quality; regulating safety in the transportation and gas pipeline areas; and for certain aspects associated with the siting of energy facilities. The mission of the Department is to ensure that utility consumers are provided with the most reliable service at the lowest possible cost; to protect the public safety from transportation and gas pipeline related accidents; and to ensure that residential ratepayers' rights are protected. The DPUseeksto promote safety, security, reliability of service, affordability, equity, and greenhouse gas emission reductions. The DPU Siting Division Internship would provide a brief, but intensive opportunity for the candidate toparticipatein ongoing Siting Division cases, and special project areas. The Intern will be an integral part of case teams working on pendingcases, andparticipate to the fullest extentpossible. Existing case topics includeoff-shorewind facilities, energy storage facilities, interstate and intrastate gas pipelines, and electric transmission facilities. Special project areas to bedeterminedbased on Division needs, and mutual interests. Position We are excited to offer an internship position in ourSiting Division. Key Responsibilities Assistwithspecial projects involving research, analysis, solution development, and briefings and/ormemos Contribute toreviewing filings by project proponents and comments by members of thepublic Participating in allfacetsof Siting Division activities including team meetings, trainings, briefings with high-level state officials, industry research, and collaboration with other divisions and staff at the DPU, and those of other state agencies Preferred Qualifications Knowledge and Interestin energy policy, clean energy,utility regulation, and environmental justice. Strongresearch,analytical,problem-solvingand writingskills. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Desire to learn and accept new challenges in the realm of energy facilities siting, energy technologyexpertise, and energy regulation. Details Hours:37.5/wk Salary:$21/hour/$26/hour (as identified in Intern Salary Schedule) Location: DPU offers a hybrid work environment. Applications for fully remote internships are also welcome.
