Job Description:
We are looking for an Hourly Intern to join our Transportation Division team.
About the Position:
This position is temporary and is anticipated to end in June 2025.
This job is designed to provide students with paid professional experience to further their education and training and is academically oriented to the student's benefit. To qualify, students must be enrolled in an accredited school program related to the type of work they are expected to perform. However, internships may not require concurrent enrollment if the student is in good standing with the educational institution. Positions will terminate upon completion of the internship period. Incumbents may deal with sensitive information. Such data is expected to be maintained as private and shared only on a need-to-know basis with other City employees and elsewhere when authorized by the intern's supervisor.
About the Team:
This position is part of the Community and Neighborhoods Department. There is one Director of Transportation, one Deputy Director of Transportation, administrative staff, and five section managers.

Work Schedule:
This position requires 20 hours of work per week. The selected candidate is required to be in the office (cubicle or shared space).
Position Salary:
$18.00/hr.

Key Responsibilities:

Performs entry-level work in the development, maintenance and support of a GIS-centric asset management program for the public way, including data collection .

Develops and maintains GIS public way fixed asset features .

Reviews project drawings and permits for tracking assets and performs field verification of applicable infrastructure as necessary.

Other tasks as assigned.

Complies with city and department policies and procedures.9+
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, though internships may not require concurrent enrollment if the student is in good standing with the educational institution.

Proficient in GIS software.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Must have good organizational and analytical skills.

Must have good computer skills.
Desired Qualification:
- Possess a valid driver license to facilitate field work.
Working Conditions:
-
Moderate physical effort, comfortable working conditions, and handling of light weights.
-
Intermittent sitting, standing, and walking may be required. Field work may require walking multiple city blocks.

Subject to extended exposure to computer visual display terminals.
-
Work will be on-site, virtual or remote work is not an option for this position.
