Position Description:

The Telecommunications Engineer provides engineering ownership and technical support for the utility’s Bulk Communications System. This role is responsible for supporting the reliable operation, maintenance, and restoration of mission-critical telecommunications infrastructure, while also leading and supporting large, multi-year capital projects involving system expansion, modernization, and technology refresh. The position integrates operational engineering, capital project delivery, technical documentation, and vendor coordination to ensure systems are designed, implemented, operated, and maintained in a safe, reliable, and sustainable manner. 

Essential Job Tasks:

  • Provides engineering support for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Bulk Communications System.
  • Supports engineering response to system impairments, outages, and service restoration activities.
  • Works directly with field and operations personnel during complex break/fix events and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Performs engineering evaluations of equipment failures and system degradations and supports root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Develops engineering designs, analyses, and technical recommendations for telecommunications infrastructure supporting transmission, generation, and system operations.
  • Leads or supports large, multi-year capital projects, including new system deployments, major upgrades, and technology refresh initiatives.
  • Prepares construction plans, technical specifications, and design documentation for telecommunications systems and facilities.
  • Supports cost estimating, scheduling, procurement, testing, and commissioning activities associated with capital projects.
  • Develops, maintains, and updates engineering documentation, drawings, design standards, and configuration records.
  • Provides technical coordination with vendors, contractors, consultants, and service providers.
  • Serves as a technical resource for engineers, technicians and operations.
  • Maintains working knowledge of Bulk Communications technologies.

Position Requirements: 

Electrical Engineer I

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited university or college.

Compensation Information:
$75,500 -$94,350 (min. - mid.)

Electrical Engineer II

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited university or college + 2 years experience.

Compensation Information:
$84,180 - $105,210 (min. - mid.) 

 Electrical Engineer III

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited university or college + 5 years experience.
  • PE License required.

Compensation Information:
$93,830 - $117,290 (min. - mid.)
