Feedback Labs Fall 2024 Social Work Practicum

FEEDBACK LABS OVERVIEW: Feedback Labs is a nonprofit organization that believes people are the best experts in their own lives, and they should ultimately drive the policies and programs that impact them. In order to make feedback the norm in philanthropy, nonprofits, and government, Feedback Labs collaborates to create incentives, support feedback-related tools and training, and foster a community of people and organizations committed to listening and responding to the people at the heart of their work.

As a Feedback Labs intern, you will work closely with the team, be trusted with great responsibility, and push the organization forward. Past interns have helped create new products, transformed our marketing and communication strategies, and written blog articles. Joining Feedback Labs is a chance to work with a fun and exciting team, learn from some of the most creative types in the sector, and be supported to take the next big step in growing your career.

LOCATIONS: This practicum opportunity is hosted by Feedback Labs, headquartered in Washington, D.C.; however this practicum is fully remote. All activities will be carried out remotely.

Student must attend a CSWE-accredited BSW or MSW/MSSW program within the United States.

POSITION OVERVIEW: During your practicum, you will work closely with the Community Pillar (Director of Community & Equity, Annie Grier, and the Community Associate, Sophia Johnson). Tangibly, you will assist the team with communications and blog support, engage members through our prospective community outreach initiatives, flagship LabStorm meetings, landscape research, and create a repository of feedback resources related to equity and social impact.

During the practicum, students will develop and demonstrate competency in the following macro practice areas:

  • Understanding Social Sector Organizations and Practices
  • Application of Theory and Research in Social Sector Organizations
  • Organizational and Community Systems Change
  • Engagement in ADEI in Practice
  • Ethical Consideration & Personal Use of Self
  • Engagement, Assessment, Intervention, and Evaluation with Organizations at the Mezzo and Macro-level

If you love brainstorming the best ways to engage people and have a passion for applying an equity lens to feedback, you should apply for this practicum!

Feedback Labs is a values-driven organization, and expects its team to carry out their tasks in alignment with these values:

  • Listen first. Adapt second. Include always. We embody our mission by equitably seeking feedback and incorporating what we hear into our actions and decision making.
  • Be overly collaborative. We are intentional about seeking out diverse stakeholders and supporting them to work together. We focus on what’s best for the field as a whole, not just ourselves.
  • Leverage power where it lies for a more equitable society. We use our influence in the field to work where we can leverage and change existing power structures to shift decision-making toward greater equity.
  • Demonstrate low hierarchy and extreme accountability. We believe everyone we encounter has the ability to contribute, and we support each other by following through with our commitments to our team, partners, and mission.
  • Delight, amaze, and fail forward with ease and grace. We strive to serve our members, our mission, and each other in a way that feels magical.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current student in a CSWE-accredited degree program.
  • Must complete relevant trainings as assigned by Feedback Labs and the Director of Community & Equity (upon selection/start of practicum placement)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Interest in macro practice (at the organizational and field level)
  • Ability to engage effectively with colleagues and external constituents through verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to conduct background research and/or literature reviews using both academic resources and gray literature.
  • Highly organized, self-starter with good interpersonal, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

FIELD SUPERVISION: Site supervision and task supervision are provided by Feedback Labs’ Director of Community & Equity, Annie Grier, MSW.

COMPENSATION: This is an unpaid internship/field placement opportunity. Feedback Labs offers a reimbursement of $100 per week for part-time interns, and $200 per week for full-time interns, for expenses that may be used to cover rent, food, supplies, or any other items that allow you to participate as your full self. Feedback Labs offers other benefits to all interns, including professional development funds and other learning opportunities.

TRAVEL: This practicum will occur remotely and no travel will be required.

SCHEDULE: Minimum of 1 semester commitment; Minimum of 20 hours per week. Maximum of 40 hours per week. Priority consideration will be given to students able to complete at least half of their weekly practicum hours during Feedback Labs’ Core Hours (M-F; 10am EST - 4pm EST).

APPLICATION LINK: Please fill out the Feedback Labs practicum application form.

Please avoid submitting photos of yourself in your application documents.

APPLICATION WINDOW: Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through August 23, 2024, with preference given to applicants that apply by August 16th, 2024.

DATE AVAILABLE: Beginning Fall 2024

CONTACT: For more information, contact Sarah Fonticella at sarah@feedbacklabs.org

HIRING PROCESS: We will use the following hiring process to consider candidates.

  • Written application via Typeform (~15-20 mins)
  • Screening Call (~10-15 mins)
  • Second interview (~30 mins)

Commitment to Diversity: We understand that there are numerous reasons why someone would read a job description and, despite “checking off most of the boxes”, decide not to apply. Research supports that self-selecting out of potential professional opportunities is particularly common among individuals with minoritized identities or identities that are marginalized in professional spaces such as BIPOC individuals, LGBTIQ+ individuals, persons with a disability, neurodivergent individuals, and individuals with a history of institutionalization (e.g. incarceration, immigration detainment, inpatient treatment, or chronic hospitalization). We invite you to share how your unique identities, background, and experiences could add to our team.

Accessibility: Closed captioning is available during all Zoom interviews. If you need assistance accessing this feature, please let your interviewer know at the start of your interview!

We’re committed to running an inclusive and accessible application process. If there are questions or concerns you have about the accessibility of our hiring process, we warmly invite you to reach out to jobs@feedbacklabs.org.

Interview Venue: We conduct interviews over Zoom, with the camera off during the screening call round and camera on during the second interview. If you are unable to turn on the camera for any reason, please reach out in advance. Interviewees are invited to update their Zoom names with their pronouns.
