Job Description

This position is to manage the undergraduate biology teaching labs by ordering and preparing all materials, preparing media and maintaining cultures needed for teaching labs, managing all safety requirements, setting up laboratory experimental supplies and equipment for student use, and troubleshooting lab procedures and protocols. Must also receive and deliver daily deliveries to the mailroom/offices and to research and teaching laboratories in Klein Hall. Responsible for ensuring the proper installation, maintenance, and validation of autoclave systems, and repair of various lab equipment which may require the use of a pallet jack. This will be conducted in a safe and substantial manner, in accordance with all federal, state, and university policies. Will manage the biology prep room, which requires keeping inventory of supplies and mixing stock solutions. Must have extensive experience with standard biological equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, autoclaves, biosafety cabinets, and water baths, etc., and knowledge of biological techniques and protocols such as microbial culture and gel electrophoresis. This person supervises student workers, assists with coordinating any teaching assistants, develops the curriculum, and communicates with the students. This person may be involved in the supervision of students in laboratory sections. The lab manager will attend TA training sessions and mandatory biohazardous training yearly. UNC Charlotte
