Job Description

Snapshot of Your Day:

We are looking for a Principal Project Engineer - Network Communication and Cybersecurity for HVDC Converter Stations in Raleigh, NC to architect and implement secure network infrastructures for HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) transmission control systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as NERCCIP (North American Electric Reliability Corporation - Critical Infrastructure Protection), IEC 62443 (International Electrotechnical Commission standard for industrial communication networks), and ISO27001 (International standard for information security management.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Develop technical specifications and documentation for HVDC control and protection systems.

  • Conduct IT-security audits, risk assessments, and penetration tests (simulated cyber-attacks to identify vulnerabilities).

  • Configure and commission communication components (switches, routers, firewalls) in HVDC environments.

  • 10% domestic travel required.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and 3 years of experience.

  • Full term of experience must include: architect and deploy secure networks for HVDC control systems, including segmentation, redundancy, and compliance with industry standards;

  • HVDC transmission principles, control, and protection systems;

  • NERC-CIP, IEC 62443, and ISO27001 standards for cyber security and information protection in industrial environments;

  • Developing and maintaining technical specifications, manuals, and documentation for control and protection systems;

  • Ability to conduct security audits, risk assessments, and penetration tests to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities;

  • Configuring and commissioning switches, routers, and firewalls (e.g., CISCO, RuggedCom, Checkpoint) in industrial environments;

  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of TCP/IP protocols, routing, switching, network separation, redundancy mechanisms, and time synchronization;

  • Control systems and industrial networks, especially in transmission projects (HVDC or FACTS).

  • 10% domestic travel required.
