Job Description

Specialize in production of screening and diagnostic x-rays for detection of breast tumors Position patient on examining table and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician.  Explain procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation Move x-ray equipment into specified position and adjust equipment controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance, based on knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques and protocols.  Select length and intensity for radiation exposure by adjusting equipment on individual patient basis Practice radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors, to minimize radiation to patient and staff Follow prescribed safety standards in operating all required radiological equipment Examine radiologic images for properties such as density and contrast, definition, magnification, and distortion Process radiographic images and send to PACS.  Process routine paperwork. Maintain X-ray storage and filing Ensure equipment is in working order. Report equipment malfunctions to supervisor Maintain patient confidentiality Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations Maintain strictest confidentiality Perform other duties as assigned
