Job Description

Position: Intern
Location: Dream Center, Charlotte
Duration: 12-16 weeks (depending on intern’s availability and the Dream Center’s program needs)
Reports to: Program Manager
Mentorship Lead: Assigned Mentor (Dream Center Staff)

About the Dream Center: The Dream Center is a relationship-based non-profit organization that serves under-resourced communities by providing outreach programs and support services. We focus on addressing needs such as food insecurity, youth engagement, and community development through initiatives like Adopt-A-Block, Kids Jam, Food Markets, and other specialized programs.

Internship Overview: The intern will gain hands-on experience in a non-profit environment, working closely with our team and receiving mentorship from experienced staff members. This internship offers the chance to develop leadership, project management, communication, and outreach skills. Interns will assist with program coordination, volunteer engagement, event planning, and community outreach efforts while receiving guidance and professional development from a mentor.

Responsibilities:

  • Program Support: Assist in the planning, execution, and evaluation of community outreach programs like Adopt-A-Block, Kids Jam, and Food Markets.
  • Volunteer Coordination: Support volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and management, helping to ensure the smooth operation of volunteer-driven initiatives.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with neighbors, build relationships, and identify opportunities for collaboration to meet community needs.
  • Event Planning: Assist in organizing community events, including logistics, setup, breakdown, and participant engagement.
  • Administrative Support: Perform tasks such as data entry, updating SharePoint rosters, tracking program participation, and managing program materials.
  • Special Projects: Participate in ongoing projects, such as seasonal events hosted by the Dream Center.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Interest in non-profit work, community outreach, and social services.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to different tasks and responsibilities as needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint) is a plus.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
