Job Description
Title: Collections Internship
Reports to: Registrar
Hours/Week: 10-15
Education and Experience:
Undergraduate or graduate student in a degree program for museum studies, history, art history, etc.
Museum training and experience in archives, collections, or libraries is preferred
Dates: January 13 – May 1, 2025
Summary:
The Collections Intern assist Registrar with cataloguing, researching, and completing a collections inventory; will work with members of the museum collections team on exhibition installation projects; and will complete various collections-related projects as assigned
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist Registrar with data entry of new and past acquisitions, cataloging museum collections and researching patron queries
- Assist Registrar with various storage projects including the creation and updating of artifact condition reports; inventorying specific collections; and working on storage and rehousing projects related to the exhibition work
- Conduct data entry in the collections management database, PastPerfect
- Assist Exhibits Manager with design of exhibit case and display of artifacts for major exhibit
- Assist museum staff with deinstallation, storage, inventory, record-keeping and re installation of museum exhibitions
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of material culture and accepted standards and practices for storage and handling of objects
- Familiarity with collection management database systems; knowledge of PastPerfect or other museum systems is a high priority
- Well-organized, methodical, able to work independently and cooperatively with others
