Overview

HSM has an opportunity for an Intern to work onsite in the IT department located at the Corporate Office in Hickory, NC. The IT Support Center Intern will provide assistance and gain expertise by working as a team member to provide internal technical support to HSM employees. This internship will provide the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and training in many aspects of communications and development, while also gaining a good understanding of the HSM organization.

HSM specializes through its subsidiaries, in the manufacturing of components for furniture, bedding, transportation, packaging, automotive, and healthcare industries. We also design and construct automated production machinery for these industries. We likely have manufactured something you use every day like sofa or bed springs, pool noodles, recliner mechanisms, packaging supplies, fabricated sofa cushions, bus seats, and much more.

Responsibilities

  • Understands the overall concept of the company, including the brand, customer, product goals, and other industry aspects.
  • Accepts designated, business-focus projects to research, propose ideas and solutions, and present final project during the internship.
  • Provide support for multiple facilities which involves analyzing, diagnosing, and resolving device issues
  • Install, uninstall, and repair software as needed
  • Apply academic knowledge and learn new skills by contributing to various projects including hardware and software support with hands on troubleshooting
  • Learn how to evaluate and process equipment and data access requests
  • Gain an understanding of various job functions within the HSM information technology department
  • Develop ways to present technical issues in user-friendly language

Qualifications

  • Must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA
  • Must be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program or anticipating graduation
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented individual
  • Excellent computer skills, technical knowledge of PC hardware and windows environments
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and procedural documents
  • Ability to research and investigate basic IT related topics
  • The ability to work well under pressure and with deadlines
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills

(Professionals, Achievements, Results, Knowledge, Synergy) Internship Program provides valuable, meaningful experience while offering the opportunity for career exploration and development. Through interdepartmental team building, lunch and learns, and hands on projects, the PARKS Program offers opportunities to build professional connections while developing essential business acumen. This paid internship is full-time and will last for ten consecutive weeks, beginning on Monday, May 27th and ending Friday, August 2nd.
