Job Description

This is primarily an administrative position which assists in guiding the Gardens by contributing to design, interpretation, and content of botanical collections; oversees the curation, health, and maintenance of the McMillan Greenhouse collections; and helps to pursue and manage fundraising opportunities including, but not limited to, plant sales, grant applications, and donor relations.
  • Direct staff, volunteers and contractors in the design, maintenance and curation of the McMillan Greenhouse, and to a lesser extent the outdoor Gardens, to fit the botanical and horticultural needs and interests of the University and Charlotte Community.
  • Engage in tasks associated with fundraising for the Gardens including taking primary responsibility for annual plant sales, assisting with grants, and working with donors and potential donors.
  • Engage with the public through various means including, but not limited to, giving tours and assisting with courses, programs and lectures to disseminate horticultural and botanical knowledge and to promote the Gardens.
  • Provide support to the Director and administrative team in carrying out budgetary responsibilities as required by the University.
