Job Description

The Graduate Assistantship provides program support to the Division of Research (DR) by performing various administrative, technical, and analytical duties and day-to-day research administration under the lead direction of one of the Department’s directors. This experience gives the students a unique hands-on/professional experience on research administration and compliance processes and procedures. 

The student will be aligned with one of the units that best fit the interest of the student. In addition, to the student’s skills that best fit one of the units. Students are encouraged to write their interests on the cover letter.

Office of Research Protections and Integrity (ORPI)

The ORPI provides administrative support to the following research areas: Human Subjects Protection, Animal Care and Use, Biosafety, Conflict of Interest, Export Controls, Responsible Conduct of Research, Research Security and Laboratory Animal Resources. 

ORPI promotes a culture of compliance, research integrity, and high-quality research within UNC Charlotte. 

The student may work in one or many areas of research compliance. Duties in ORPI include, but it is not limited to:

  • Organize and maintain compliance training records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations.
  • Monitor emails and coordinate responses with compliance administrators.
  • Plan, track, and automate reminders for training requirements and regulatory deadlines in Smartsheet.
  • Assist in reviewing research applications and ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with the unit leads to update and maintain program records.
  • Conduct data entry and validation for compliance systems such as Smartsheet and Niner Research.
  • Provide administrative support and supporting occasional on-campus deliveries.
  • Prepare reports and summaries for program evaluation and compliance monitoring.
  • Assist with updating compliance-related content on the ORPI website.
  • Participate in special projects related to research compliance as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment as a graduate student at UNC Charlotte.
  • Proficiency in Smartsheet, Google Suite, and Niner Research preferred.
  • Familiarity with federal and local compliance regulations.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with attention to regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Prior experience with administrative tasks, data entry, or research compliance is a plus.
  • Interest in compliance related fields is desirable but not required.

Schedule and Compensation

  • Part-time position with flexible hours to accommodate class schedules.
  • Compensation determined by experience and program requirements.
