DISTRIBUTION COORDINATOR
The Distribution Coordinator manages the different aspects of print distribution, bridges the gap between Marketing and the Niner Times for circulation and sales, and does related work as required. They are also responsible for managing the distribution staff. Position includes the operation of vehicles from the university's motor fleet. The distribution coordinator is expected to have a valid driver's license and complete all required training.
Distinguishing Features of the Job:
This individual assists the Niner Times Editor-in-Chief and Marketing Director in the performance of print and ad distribution. This person will distribute the Niner Times print paper, marketing materials and the products from other Student Niner Media departments if needed. They are selected by the Niner Times Editor-in-Chief and Marketing Director and sit on the Niner Times Managerial and Editorial Board.
Distribution Coordinator Tasks:
- Ensures that the papers are distributed each required week with their distribution staff. Will distribute the paper with the distribution staff if necessary.
- Ensures that marketing ads/flyers are distributed to the required stands.
- Communicates with the marketing department and sales staff to ensure that ads for print are sent to the Niner Times editors before production.
- Produces a weekly report of how sales/ads and distribution is going. This is presented/delivered at a minimum to the Niner Times EIC and Marketing Director
- Ensures that newsstands are clean and intact.
- Will work to deliver any other publications/goods to stands from the other SNM departments.
- Will meet once a month, or however much is necessary, with the other SNM Department Heads to ensure any distribution tasks are communicated effectively
- Responsible for communicating with the printers of the Niner Times about changes to the printing schedule, general questions and updates on delivery.
- Aids with tabling related to the SNM departments and ensuring papers and promotional items are available.
- Meets with the Editor-in-Chief and Marketing Director once a week as needed.
- Attends and participates in all staff meetings, including the Budget Meeting, Editorial Board and general. If a problem arises, discuss it with the Editor-in-Chief beforehand
- Recruits and trains any distribution staff.
General Editor Responsibilities:
- Represents the Niner Times and Marketing Department in an appropriate, respectful, and professional way in all settings
- Maintains office hours of at least 12 hours per week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (M-F), half of the hours may occur Sunday on production nights, during staff meetings and paper distribution
- Assists in the orientation of new employees on the staff for their section
- Attends required evaluation meetings organized by the Editor-in-Chief
- Attends and participates in all general, editorial and staff meetings; If a problem arises, discuss it with the Editor-in-Chief and Marketing Director beforehand
- Will be responsible for maintaining a clean and professional desk and working area in the newsroom
- Checks their email and Niner Times Discord regularly and responds in a timely manner
- Recruits for the publication by going to classes to speak about the Niner Times
- Accepts individual and section-related feedback provided by the Editor-in-Chief and/or Marketing Director
Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Abilities:
- Must be a student currently enrolled in UNC Charlotte
- Must possess and maintain a GPA of 2.0
- Must be in good academic standing at UNC Charlotte
- General knowledge of campus preferred
- Must be respectful towards the publication and its members (both in and out of NT meetings/chats & on social media)
- Should attend and participate in orientation and general and editorial meetings
- Must communicate openly and frequently with members of the Editorial Board & EIC
- Must be actively involved with the day-to-day happenings of the Niner Times
- Skills in production pertaining to their section/position
- Ability to work well with people and direct the activities of others
- Ability to accept and apply feedback and constructive criticism
- Must meet deadlines
